The Calander Changes for New Year in England

I have entered the dates according to the translated sources which generally have not indicated whether they are Old Style (OS) or New Style (NS).

1752 was the first year in England to begin on 1 January.

Previously

  • 1740 - November
  • 1740 - December
  • 1740 - January
  • 1740 - February
  • 1740 - March 1st to 24th
  • 1741 - March 25th

A document between January and 24th March 1752 was January 1750/51 OS/NS because the start of the calander year was now January 1st.

The Calander Changes Julian to Gregorian.

The Gregorian Calander cut out days to make up for solar years becoming out of synch.

In 1752 England adopted the changes.

  • Wednesday 2 September 1752 was followed by Thursday 14th September.

Quaker Dates .

Many of my ancestors were Quakers. They did not write date such as August 9th 1748. This date would be written 19th da 6th mo 1748 or 6th mo 19th da 1748.

In the Julian Calander March 25th began a new year.

  • March = 1 mo (Until 1752)
  • April = 2 mo
  • May = 3 mo
  • June = 4 mo
  • July = 5 mo
  • August = 6 mo
  • September = 7 mo
  • October = 8 mo
  • November = 9 mo
  • December = 10 mo
  • January = 11 mo
  • February = 12 mo

was the first month, February was the twelfth month.
